GROTON — Fire Chief Arthur Cheeks reports that the Groton Fire Department responded Saturday morning to a motor vehicle crash in which a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries.
At approximately 8:34 a.m. on July 4, the Groton Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to a crash in the area of Old Ayer Road and Boston Road (Route 119).
The motorcycle operator, a man in his 40s, suffered a significant lower-body injury.
Due to the severity of his injuries, an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance from the Ayer Fire Department and a medical helicopter were requested.
The man was transported by ambulance to a landing zone at the fire station on Farmers Row, then flown by UMass Memorial LifeFlight to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment.
The driver of the passenger vehicle reported no injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Groton Police Department.
