GROTON – Fire Chief Arthur Cheeks reports that the Groton Fire Department responded to a fatal incident at Scarlet Hill Farm late last week.
On Friday, June 5, shortly before 3:30 p.m., Groton Police and Fire were dispatched by Patriot Regional Emergency Communications Center (PRECC) to Scarlet Hill Farm, 245 Lowell Road, for reports of an unconscious equestrian.
Upon arrival, Groton Fire assessed that a 25-year-old woman had suffered traumatic injuries after a fall in which the horse she was riding fell on top of her.
Ayer Fire Department Paramedics also responded to the scene to provide assistance.
Due to the seriousness of the injuries, a medical helicopter was requested. The victim was flown to a Worcester Trauma center, where Chief Cheeks was later informed that she died from her injuries.
Groton Fire extends its most sincere condolences to the victim’s family, and the Department wishes to thank its mutual aid partners for their assistance. As a rural community, Groton public safety agencies are in regular communication with area farms and horse farms, and firefighters train regularly on the inherent dangers of equine sports and activities.
