WHAT IS AN EXPLORER?
- Explorers are young men and women between the ages of 15 and 20 who are interested in a possible future in firefighting.
- Explorers will take part in training with fire department members and learn what it is like to be an on-call or full-time firefighter.
THE GOAL OF THE EXPLORER PROGRAM
The goal of this program is to help these young adults make a decision on whether they want to become a firefighter or not. If they join the program and decide they want to be a firefighter, then it is a great source of training and makes for an easy transition into becoming an actual firefighter. On the other hand, if they decide it is not something they want to do then it is better to learn that as a young adult then to have spent time and money on a career you just aren't that interested in.
WHAT TO EXPECT AS AN EXPLORER
Explorers meet twice a month, usually the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. During these meetings the explorers can expect:
- Hands on practical Fire and EMS training
- Simulated firefighting scenarios
- Learning leadership skills
- Making new friends
- Community fundraisers
- Networking with public safety professionals
